It was a tough job to pick the 50 Members of Congress who over the last two years have shown the most callous indifference to the suffering of unemployed American households. After all, 42% of the 535 Members earned a D+ or LOWER for their actions; 25% earned an F or F-minus, with most of them getting a 0%.

This is what I wrote today in the nation's largest newspaper: Birthright citizenship is a powerful anchor for keeping illegal workers in a country — and for keeping the jobs they fill out of reach of unemployed legal residents. Every developed nation in the world, — except the USA and Canada, — has rejected citizenship for births to tourists and unlawful foreign residents.

Terrible recent reports of a record pace of deaths of illegal aliens in the U.S. desert and in Mexico at the hands of ruthless gangs point an accusatory finger at the political, media and religious leaders of this country who talk incessantly about their plans to reward the act of illegal immigration with U.S. citizenship.

We saw some exciting results in the primary elections yesterday as many candidates won who had pledged to support all 12 of NumbersUSA's top immigration priorities. The chances are going up with every Primary election for a much-improved Congress in terms of sensible immigration policy and reduced numbers. The 5th worst Republican in the Senate may have lost her seat, for example.

My interest is not to help the Republican Party (or any other) but to note that the top leadership in the Republican Party is tone deaf when it continues to push GOP candidates to support "comprehensive immigration reform" (amnesty) as a way to gain Hispanic votes.

Over the past two weeks, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have called their respective chambers back to Washington from the summer recess to pass a $600 million border-spending bill. New jobless claims are again going up. I was asked by a reporter why I disagree with all the experts who say that immigration makes the economy bigger. My answer? "I agree that the economy will be bigger as you add immigrants, but what matters is what happens to individual Americans. And that effect for 25 years has been stagnant or declining real wages for the working-class occupations."

For all the talk in Congress about helping unemployed Americans and trying to hold the costs down on extension of unemployment benefits, I heard nothing about the huge extra amounts of benefits required because illegal aliens are allowed to hold 8 million jobs.
