Help A White Guy

This is what goes for tough talk on illegal immigration at the White House: We'll offer permanent work permits, permanent residency and path to citizenship to illegal aliens but if they don't sign up, they just have to go home.

A rolling national TV and internet ad campaign began this morning that puts the lie to Pres. Obama's speeches that his No. 1 priority is putting Americans back to work. The ads note that he could put millions back to work if he would fully enforce immigration laws -- but he has cut enforcement by 60%. Do what you can to spread these ads everywhere. . . .

Well-funded open-borders groups send hecklers to call me a "white supremacist" every place I speak. But I was still a little surprised when I spoke to a Black grassroots group recently to have all the African Americans there also accused. It now looks like pro-amnesty groups are willing to label as racist anybody who advocates for less immigration.

For 16 months, NumbersUSA has tried to focus politicians and news media on the fact that millions of jobless Americans could be put back to work if immigration policies were changed. Now, a new Caucus in the U.S. House has been formed to promote the same message INSIDE Congress. Politicians joining the Reclaim American Jobs Caucus make unemployed Americans a priority.

The virulently open-border Congressional Hispanic Caucus appears poised to vote FOR health care verification requirements that they vehemently oppose. And that is both a great irony of this protracted debate and a sign that grassroots activists for sensible immigration policies can take at least some satisfaction for all of their efforts this past year to make sure that whatever happens on health care, there won't be big extra incentives for breaking immigration laws.

The retirement of Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) will end a 17-year unbroken commitment to persuading Congress to eliminate birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. He was among the co-sponsors of the original bill in 1993 to put the U.S. in line with most other modern nations. And he has been the lead sponsor of the bill in every Congress since 2003.

I hope very critical news reports about E-Verify this week did not shake your confidence in mandatory workplace verification. I will tell you there is more to the story, but also that the weaknesses in E-Verify are why we call for the passage of the SAVE Act which has extra provisions to combat identity fraud. . . .

Highly paid PR firms for the open-borders lobby have gotten stories in many major newspapers this month suggesting that the only way to attract the Hispanic vote is to favor a comprehensive amnesty and also an increase in foreign workers. But a massive Zogby poll shows Hispanic views to be quite different . . .

The open-borders lobby is wailing about Pres. Obama's health care compromise, and that seems like it should be good news on the immigration front. . . .

Most of the spotlighted conservative leaders at the giant CPAC convention this weekend showed that they are far more interested in the feelings of Republican Party major donors than in offering help for 25 million Americans who can't find a full-time job. Americans might have hoped that finally at this meeting there would be a sign of true leadership in stopping the massive importation of new foreign workers during a jobs depression. But on that topic, hope was as scarce as at the Obama White House.

I feel like I lost a bit of my U.S. citizenship today. For 45 years, no matter how polarized my community or my country, no matter how loud the shouting matches and the challenges to each other's morality and humanity . . . I always felt like I could set aside differences and engage in an act of pure civic devotion to my fellow Americans at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Sen. Evan Bayh's (D-Ind.) surprise retirement announcement sets up the possibility that the more restricitonist candidate in the general election to replace him may be the Democrat. . .

I seem to have struck some nerves among the open-borders crowd with my reminder to Tea Party activists around the country that our immigration policies drive a lot of the increases in the size of government. The open-borders folks are howling that I said immigration policies drive growth in welfare use. To say such a thing, is "immigrant bashing," according to Frank Sharry in the massively read HuffingtonPost.com.

After spending three days in Nashville, it looks to me like the central driving force behind the Tea Party movement truly is a desire for less government. I went to observe and to make my case that for those who want to shrink government it isn't possible without reducing overall immigration (especially LEGAL). And the role of immigration in driving up the numbers of the uninsured is a case in point.

The liberal Democratic impulse seems to have moved the Obama Administration to make some good decisions in reversing Bush Administration rules for temporary foreign agricultural workers.

For those of you whose primary political interest is stopping the growth of government or even shrinking it, you have to contend with national leaders who say they agree with you but who refuse to deal with immigration. They say immigration is a "social" issue that isn't related to government spending and deficit issues. They couldn't be more wrong. . . .

We can now look at what was actually happening on the border (with frightening video to help illustrate) at the same time Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano was telling Congress that the border has been "transformed" under her watch and is now secure enough to pass an amnesty. Also take a look at the similarity between J-No's misleading of the public with Pres. Bush's. . . .

Zogby has uncovered some really incredible news about the nation's business owners and executives . . . . They oppose amnesty and more foreign labor importation by just about as big a margin as the rest of us!

Last month we noticed that one of our active members: John Buck, Regional Organizer American Federation of Citizen Union Workers P.A.C., was sharing and leaving outstanding comments on our blogs and news stories and leaving Facebook posts about union leadership. John has been a member since January 17, 2009 and has sent more than 135 faxes to Congress. I wanted John to share his stories and e-mails to me with you.

I have spent two of the last three years living safely and happily in countries that currently have Temporary Protected Status: Nicaragua and El Salvador. And I have visited a third: Honduras. While these countries have their respective problems, continued TPS is by no means necessary.
